Laser Treatment for Gum
Disease in Independence, Ohio

As we always say, dentists fight two things cavities and gum
disease. There are a multitude of ways to prevent and treat these oral
issues, but today we want to discuss how to treat gum disease with laser
therapy.

What is Laser Gum Treatment?

Treating gum disease with laser therapy is one of the suggested
procedures for patients with periodontal disease– those who have
bacterial overgrowth and infection in their gums.

This is a non-surgical procedure where we essential deep clean
around and under your gums get rid of the existing bacteria and prevent
future bacteria and infection.

What is the Process for Laser Treatment?

The first step of the appointment is to numb your mouth so that
you don’t have to worry about us in there. Then our hygienist uses a
special tool to lift up your gums just enough so that we can clean as close
to the root as possible. This is called scaling and root planing
(SRP.)

The next step is for us to use a CO2 non-contact laser to kill the
bacteria and viral contaminants.

Then there are two follow up appointments the next one takes place
about three weeks after the first appointment, and we make sure everything is
healing correctly. These appointments are quick, easy, and painless with no
Novocain necessary.

Benefits of Scaling and Root Planing Gum Laser
Therapy:

  • Short healing times
