Quick and Comfortable
Root Canals in Independence, Ohio

Why Are Root Canals Necessary?

When a cavity goes untreated, the bacteria will eventually spread
to the roots of the tooth and can kill the nerves. Without a root
canal
, the tooth will die and either fall out or have to be
removed. And the goal of dentistry is to help you keep all of your
teeth!

A Root Canal Analogy

The analogy that we use is just picture a hardboiled egg. We have
to go through the eggshell, which is the enamel, to clean out the egg white
area, which is where the decay is. If the decay goes into the egg yolk or the
nerve, we have to remove the nerve and then fill it in with a calcium sealer.
That helps the tooth pH back to normal.

How do I Know if I Need a Root
Canal?

The most common way to know is if you’re in pain. You come
to the dentist for the pain, and we take x-rays and find an abscess. However,
sometimes there is no pain associated with the infection, but we can still
catch it with the x-rays.

This is why it is so important to keep up with your routine dental
cleanings and exams! Catching issues while they are small can help you avoid
a root canal!
