Treating a Cold
Sore
Almost everyone has had a cold sore before, and if you have, too,
then you know how annoying and sometimes painful they can be! But you
don’t have to suffer through it anymore – you can treat
your cold sores at the dentist!
What Causes Cold Sores?
Cold sores are caused by a virus that can surface due to stress,
seasonal changes, medication, etc.
How to Treat Cold Sores at the Dentist?
We offer cold sore treatments with laser therapy. The laser seeks
water, which contains bacteria, inflammation, and viruses, so they’re
drawn into that cold sore. There is no contact with the laser, and it only
penetrates about a tenth of a millimeter to eliminate the
sore.
The laser decontaminates the area and evaporates the water
that’s in the viral nerve ending.
This is a non-Novocain procedure with no
pain!
Laser Cold Sore Removal Healing Time
Typically, a cold sore with no treatment can take over 2 weeks to
heal. With the laser treatment, it will vanish in 3-5 days.
Research suggests that after the laser treatment, a cold sore
should not resurface in that same spot. It is possible for them to still
surface on other parts of your mouth, which can be treated once it
appears.
