Expert Care – Tailored Approach – Minimal Discomfort

Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth, commonly referred to as third molars, usually make their appearance between the ages of 17 and 25. While not everyone requires their wisdom teeth to be removed, extraction is often recommended in specific circumstances to prevent potential complications. These complications include impaction, where the teeth do not fully erupt through the gum line, leading to pain, infection, or damage to adjacent teeth. Additionally, crowded wisdom teeth can disrupt the alignment of other teeth, necessitating orthodontic treatment.

  • Impacted Teeth Many individuals’ jaws cannot accommodate the additional set of molars, leading to impaction. This condition prevents wisdom teeth from erupting properly, causing misalignment and potential jaw issues.

  • Gum Pain and Infection Chronic gum pain around wisdom teeth may signal infection due to food and bacteria accumulation around partially erupted molars.

  • Misalignment and Decay Wisdom teeth often emerge at angles that can disrupt the alignment of existing teeth. Additionally, their hard-to-reach location increases the risk of decay.

The Wisdom Tooth Extraction Process

Here’s what you can expect throughout your wisdom tooth extraction experience:

  • Pre-Surgery Consultation Before your procedure, you’ll have a detailed discussion with Dr. Bilski about what to anticipate before, during, and after your wisdom tooth extraction to ensure you’re fully informed and prepared.

  • Anesthesia for Comfort On the day of the extraction, we’ll administer a local anesthetic to numb the area around your wisdom teeth. For the removal of multiple wisdom teeth at once, a general anesthetic may be used, allowing you to sleep through the procedure without any discomfort.

  • The Extraction Process Gum tissue is carefully opened over the affected tooth, remove any obstructing bone, and then extract the wisdom tooth. Stitches may be applied post-extraction to aid in healing.

  • Tailored Approach The complexity of wisdom tooth extraction varies based on whether the tooth is fully erupted, partially erupted, or impacted. A tailored approach is employed to each case, ensuring the best possible outcome with minimal discomfort.
